From valedictorian in Europe to the cover of AJODO
A relentless work ethic, two master’s degrees, and a deep love of family. Here is how Dr. B became the orthodontist that other orthodontists learn from.
It started early, and it started at the very top.
Dr. Kevin Baharvand graduated as valedictorian of his dental school at the University of Debrecen in Europe at just 22 years old. He came to the United States for the Advanced Standing program at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, where he graduated with high honors as salutatorian of his class and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society, an award reserved for uncompromised academic achievement.
After practicing general dentistry in Massachusetts, he could not shake an obsession with orthodontics. As he puts it, “I loved being a dentist, but orthodontics was something I was obsessed with.”

Two master’s degrees, four honor societies, one specialty
Dr. B completed his orthodontic residency at Jacksonville University while simultaneously earning a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership. He was among fewer than five orthodontic residents in the entire United States to earn a Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics alongside two master’s degrees at once.
Along the way he was inducted into four national honor societies, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Beta Gamma Sigma, and was named a finalist for the prestigious Journal of Clinical Orthodontics Student of the Year Award.

When he is not perfecting smiles, Dr. B is a national speaker, a peer-reviewed author, and a published children’s book writer. His interview on the Dentistry Uncensored podcast has been viewed in more than 50 countries. But above every title, he is a Baba to three.
Dr. B and his wife, orthodontist Dr. Julia Kang, are raising Kian, Amelia, and Liam, and he credits fatherhood with making him a better clinician. “I treat my patients with compassion, as if they were my own family.”
